Bio:
Mark Potempa, an Illinois native, grew up with fitness
and vitality a central component in his life. He held fitness and
massage in high regard even as a child as he grew up a competitive
gymnast. His Polish coach used to incorporate massage techniques into
their training together so it didn't take long for Mark to realize the
impressive healing power of massage. In 1999, he graduated from Mesa
State College in Grand Junction, CO with a degree in Exercise Science
and Physiology and went on to become a Foreign Currency Trader in
Chicago for 3 years. After 3 years of trading Marks body was slowly
deteriorating and health issues became dominant from his fast-paced
lifestyle where health and wellness didn't seem to have a place. In
2003 while on a trip to Thailand, Mark thought about studying massage
intensely in order to help himself as well as others heal. He graduated
from the Fingerlakes School of Massage 1000 hour Massage Program in
2003. After becoming a NY State Licensed Massage Therapist, he obtained
a certification in Personal Training from the National Academy of
Sports Medicine in 2004. Mark worked in physical therapy offices for a
year blending different training and massage techniques with all his
knowledge of the body. He has continued his education taking classes in
Thai Massage, Reiki, Functional progressions, Knee injuries, & Core
Training for Athletes. He is currently enrolled in Emily Conrad's
Cellular Resonance & the Evolving Immune System.
In 2004 Mark and FLSM graduate Tiffany Majewski collaborated to
create Jiva, an in-home/in-office massage and personal training
company. They work with a variety of clients, from those with demanding
schedules preferring home sessions, to corporate clients eager to bring
massage & yoga to their employees.
